Dec 12, 2010 · During Erin’s first visit to the Netherlands, we hoped to be able to visit a couple of the famed Trappist breweries. On our way to spend a day in Antwerp and night in Brussels, we decided to make our first stop at the Westmalle Brewery in Belgium. Westmalle Dubbel is a dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The creamy head has the fragrance of special malt and leaves an attractive lace pattern in the glass. The flavour is rich and complex, herby and fruity with a fresh-bitter finish.
