I actually just used this same setup on vacation last week. I used a TP-Link WiFi Extender to connect to wifi, and plugged the lan from extender to my wan of a pfsense travel router. The provided wifi speed was only 50mb, and with the TPLink to pfsense, my speedtest consistently hit 44. Here are the steps I took. It has significantly better security features than UDMP then I migrated my UniFi switching & wireless to a self-hosted Unifi Controller on a Ubuntu VM. It's been rock solid and solved some filtering quirks I was seeing with the UDMP.It has limited memory which results in constraints in functionality, capacity, and performance. I suspect that the 5 device limit is related to the restricted memory (~1 GB, if I read the specs properly). The UX can function as a Gateway using it own internal controller, or as an AP if adopted into another Unifi controller.It looked like a cheap knockoff of Ubiquiti with poor software. In this price range there was not anything comparable to Ubiquiti.
