Pietta has much improved their guns in the last several years but for some weird reason, decided to put an odd 8.5" barrel on their 1861. The Uberti is the proper 7.5" length. Both guns have basically the 1860 profile with a .36 caliber hole.

Although I posted the fact I was blessed with success, I neglected to comment on the sheer power displayed by the round ball I shot.Replica Arms was one of the major competitors of Navy Arms in the beginning of the replica black powder revolver revival. Replica Arms later moved to Marietta, Ohio.Pyrodex will often fail to fire in a flintlock. It has a higher ignition temperature than pure black. Some shooters start with a 5-10 grain load of real black powder and then some Pyrodex over that. Sounds like a lot of fussing and won't solve your problem. You will need real black powder to prime, for sure.In other words, a tablespoon of stain to a tablespoon of alcohol. With this thinned stain, use a small, fine hair paint brush about 3/4" to 1" wide and paint the stain onto the wood. Apply the stain "with the grain".
