On the left of the test piece is 1 tsp/cup of water. The darker side on the right is 2 tsp/cup. I flooded the wood with solution and let it dry in the sun for 20 minutes.Coat the entire circumference of the barrel in a generous area around the sight. Solder won't stick to the soap stone so make sure everything is well covered around the sight. Remove the clamped sight and "tin" the sight base with regular low temp plumber's solder. We used pieces of old wasp nest (very good), news paper and even cotton balls. The trick was to pull the cotton balls apart a little bit so that they didn't fly very far. Lubed with a loose beeswax and tallow/olive oil lube they worked well.

Pyrodex is not as dense as black powder. Measure with a black powder measure. A hundred grain measures of black powder will throw about eighty grains of pyrodex.
