BUT... they're shooters.The synthetic powders energy level per cubic inch is the same as black powder so use the volume measure for all of them. A .45 caliber rifle will use a .440 diameter ball patched with a patch that may be from .010 to .020 thick. Most people find that a .015-=.018 patch works best. The patch must also be made of pure cotton.That rifle, as I seem to recall, was offered in .40 and .36. The .40 was touted as "the" deer caliber with the .36 being "the" all around rifle. I drooled over the pictures and read then read some more. This was long before "magnumitis" infiltrated muzzleloading and before rules with minimum caliber restrictions for deer.That bullet had a Muzzle Velocity of 1058 and 1407 ft/lb of energy. Measure with a black powder measure. A hundred grain measures of black powder will throw about eighty grains of pyrodex. You get about 25% more shots from a pound of pyrodex then a pound of black. Always measure by volume not by weight.
