Hey Ladies, I'm currently 38 weeks 4 days. Last time I was checked I was 3 cm dilated and almost fully effaced, that same day my Dr. sent to the hospital because my blood pressure was reading a little high when it was always normal. I am currently 41 weeks with baby 2 and am going in a few hrs to be induced AGAIN. honestly though, my first experience wasn't too bad. it was very very long, but my body needed the time to dilate and I am glad my doctor gave me that time. I chose to do cervical checks I know it doesn't necessary indicate when birth is coming but I like to know. I'm about the same as of yesterday! I started dilating 3 weeks ago at 1 cm, when my OB checked yesterday (36 + 2 days) I was 2 cm and 25%-50% effaced. She said I definitely won't make it to my due date and told me to try to hold out until the 27th when she's on call!If your cervix is very thick, not as great. If it's nice and thin it might be better. BUT cervixes can thin out very quickly with nice contractions. We call this effacement (and we usually measure it in a percent — so they'll say your cervix is 50% effaced). Honestly, anything less than about 70% is still pretty thick.Doctor wouldn't do a membrane sweep til 39 weeks so she scheduled me for next Thursday.Last pregnancy I was 2 cm dilated at 38 weeks and 3 cm at just over 39,weeks when she performed my sweep.
